Several locations had a record rainfall for March, of about 10 inches of rain.

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

2 to 3 inches of rain in the last 8 hours will cause moderate flooding.

Accuweather .com reports that we had 22 storms this winter with 30 to 40 inches of water.  ( be that rain or snow )  No wonder we are so worn out!

1 inch of snow in Tobyhannah PA, Tuesday afternoon.

My own long range outlook is for mild to warm weather for 10 days then, cool weather will re-appear.

Monday, March 29, 2010

Through much of the day, the heaviest rain has missed northeast NJ.  Rain may build back in overnight and cause flooding Tues. ,Wed.

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Flood alerts once again.

About an inch and a half of rain and we have rising rivers again.

Snow possible Friday night and March 29th.  REally a long shot.

Sunday, March 21, 2010

A rainy start for the week is in store, hopefully not enough rain to cause a big rise in the rivers.

A flood watch may be issued if the rain appears heavy later today.

I see an April Fool's Day snow and rain storm on the GFS this morning.  Too early to worry.

GOP+Tea Party= WTF Party

Friday, March 19, 2010

Forecasters are unanimous, nice weekend followed by Health Care Reform.

Here is the chance for Republicans to place themselves on the wrong side of history again.   Now they can side with the Tea Party and give a big no to health care reform.  During the 1960's, they sold their souls and opposed the Civil Rights Movement, as if siding with racists was noble. They should also side with all those good people on Wall Street.  Keep up the good work Republicans, the Party of No!

GOP+TEA PARTY= WTF Party.

Rainy Monday and Tuesday coming up.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Calmer and drier weather, mild temps. Lots of sun for 4 or 5 days.

Looks like 5 days of nice weather, turning cool and rainy Sunday into Monday.  Not a heavy , long lasting storm like we just had.

Next week is partly cloudy, cool.  The last weekend in March could turn stormy, once again.  I expect our stormy season is not quite over.

Accuweather.com's, Joe Bastardi, is calling for a warm April.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

A new shot of rain headed toward NJ at 8:50 pm Sunday night.

Worst wind and rain since hurricane Floyd, a decade ago.

About 2 to 5 inches of rain so far, with some locally higher amounts.  Some moderate to major flooding is in progress or is soon expected.

There are road closings in various places including Rte. 23.  At Little Falls, the river will reach 5 feet above flood stage, which is substantial.  Hamburg Tpk. is closed at the Pompton Falls bridge.

I drove in to NYC yesterday for a performance of the NY Philharmonic.  Driving conditions were awful, much worse than I expected.  I was tempted to take the train, but learned that NJ Transit was shutting down service.  On the return trip at night, there were numerous areas with power out and downed trees.  Wind gusts to 60 mph and higher were reported.

Now flooding will cause major problems in some areas, with the Ramapo and Pompton rivers, especially.  Although winds have subsided, the soil is so saturated that falling trees are still possible.  Rain will continue on and off through most of Monday.

The concert at Lincoln Ctr. was quite good and surprisingly the hall was filled to capacity.  Ricardo Muti conducted the New York philharmonic in the Beethoven Violin concerto and Franck's 4th symphony.

Would it be wrong for a third party to interfere with the doctor / patient relationship?  People outside of the medical community, that is.  What do you think?

We can......

......call this the worst wind and rain since Hurricane Floyd.  74 mph gust at JFK airport.  Many trees down and numerous power failures.

And Sunday will still be windy and rainy, although not as fierce as today. Travel should be avoided.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Rain may be heavy on about the 13th and 14th, this weekend.

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Pleasant late winter weather until Wednesday, then, rains begin.

We have the potential for spring flooding, at the end of this week.  If the rains are heavy, the combination of melting snow and rain could lead to flooding.

Thursday, March 4, 2010

It will begin to feel more like spring but still on the chilly side.

Snow/ rain, possible on the 10th, 16th.

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Snow tonight and Wednesday may be somewhat heavier than first thought.

A couple of inches accumulation possible on colder surfaces, especially in southern areas.  Pavement should be wet in most areas.

Morristown  3"  forecast.  On grassy areas mostly.
