Snowstorm Targets 70 Million in Northeast, Midwest

Snowstorm Targets 70 Million in Northeast, Midwest< click here.

New Jersey , New York Metro will get snow, but we will not have reliable numbers until sometime New Years Day!

Models all over the place and so are forecasters

Only this afternoon has the storm energy come ashore on the west coast.  There may be better agreement in the next day or tonight late.

I still like my first guess from a few days ago, a total of  5 up to maybe 10 inches.  But who knows?

In Connecticut and Mass. , a foot or more.  A real big snow seems less likely, at this time.

Monday, December 30, 2013

Thursday Morning as you wake up.

The ground is white. It will snow with varying intensity and become heavy as the day moves along.

Snow day? Probably, in many districts.

Monster Miller "A" type storm is now on the table for New York, New Jersey Metro area.

My guess for 5 to 9 inches that I posted a few days ago, may need to be revised upward.  THe GFS weather models show a major storm coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, NOT a transfer from Ohio to the DelMar Va.

Sub zero temperatures are possible after the storm ends.

6 to 12 inches for Northern New Jersey and much more than that for New England.

DT at Wxrisk.com is still betting on the Euro.

Caldwell, NJ forecast low temp. Is -9 degrees below zero,  ( GFS Numerical ) , Saturday morning.

Even New York City may take a run at 150 year old temperature records this Saturday.

Major Snowstorm May Affect the Northeast Thursday

Major Snowstorm May Affect the Northeast Thursday < click here.

Snow Thursday and Friday. How much?

Record cold is likely in Maine and Quebec later this week.

Blocking is setting up near Greenland.

These two developments raise suspicion for a major snowstorm later this week!

WPC , the Weather Prediction Center Forecast for day

Snow seems more likely now with several models beginning to agree on the Thursday night and into Friday time frame.

Post New Years Day snow is more probable, but this Sunday is rainy.

DT at Wxrisk and also the WPC , see a snow in our future on Jan. 2 or 3.

Early guess?  5 to 9 inches over New Jersey and New York metro.

Bitter cold will follow the snow, if it happens.  Temps at or below zero next weekend.

Get ready here comes the cold and maybe the snow.

Christmas Eve. Snow showers and snow squalls with some minor accumulations possible in Northern New Jersey and New York Metro.

After New Years a snowstorm is possible followed by bitter cold.  It is after all, January!  The weather forecast should not be surprising.

Sunday, December 22, 2013

After our record breaking warmth, colder weather will prevail.

No big storms on the horizon, after a rainy and much cooler Monday.

Tuesday will bring good shopping weather for those last minute buyers in the New York, New Jersey Metro area.  But it will be a chilly Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The New Year will probably bring frigid temperatures as we move into the 2 nd week of the year.

DT at Wxrisk .com announced this trend a few days ago and now it is looking more likely than ever.

Monday, December 16, 2013

Clipper hits us before dawn tomorrow.

A general 2 to 4 inch snow will occur tomorrow morning and ending in the afternoon followed by another shot at night that will range from a coating to one inch.  The roads will have winter travel problems tomorrow morning in New Jersey, and the New York metro area.  Winter weather forecast headaches do not return until Christmas.

Euro takes a look at the next 30 days.

Although a short warm spell is due at the end of this week, the next 30 days look colder than normal and probably snowy as well.

Sunday, December 15, 2013

More snow ahead for New York, New Jersey, in the weather forecast. New Englanders are thankful for the Christmas Ski Week ahead.

Weather geek gossip is for 1 to 4 inches of snow.  A fast moving clipper storm. This Tuesday into Wednesday so it is looking fairly certain.

A HUGE WARM UP IS COMING DECEMBER 20, 21,22.

Falling temperatures through the day.

The temps continue to fall and the likely hood of rain developing seems much less likely. But only 1 to 3 inches locally so far.

It gives an old fashioned feeling that the weather will surprise us, no matter how much technology is employed.

We just will wait and see what happens.

NWSdiscussion

thermal aloft profiles especially late Sat night...with the European model (ecmwf)
cold enough for an all snow event northwest of NYC...and snow mixing with
or changing to rain for NYC and Long Island...and the GFS showing
a change to freezing rain and sleet inland late Sat night. Since
the better part of the precipitation will have fallen by the time p-type
begins to change from snow...these differences should not have a
major impact on snowfall amts...so think most inland sections and
all of southern CT should see snowfall amts of 5-7 inches...with
NYC and Long Island seeing amts of 2-4 or 3-5 inches. Confidence
is increasing on these amts...and a Winter Storm Watch may
eventually be issued for most areas northwest of NYC and southern CT.

Update GFS model.

Latest data shows .5 inches water, which is still in the 4 to 6 inches of snow range.  It turns to ice Sat. Night.  Ends Sunday morning.  Areas south or east get more ice or rain.

Doctor No ( Euro ) says at least 6 hours of snow , followed by ice. Snow about 4 to 6 inches . Several hours of ice, then flurries.

Not a blockbuster storm , but it will gives us more snow and ice than the last one.  The end of the event will be about noon on Sunday.  Saturday night travel will be hazardous in the New York, New Jersey metro area, but the weather forecast is not as bad as it started to look yesterday.  Still , there is time for the weather forecast to change.

This is based on the Euro and a few others that show a somewhat similar trend.

At this time of year ,
it is a major nuisance, and gives us practice in dealing with snow removal.

National Weather Service is tuned in to a possible storm this weekend for New York Metro and suburbs.

THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM FROM LATE

This winter shapes up as a rough one, next storm pops up Saturday and Sunday

New York City to Boston will start as snow to an icy mix.  A lot of icing is possible inland with heavy New England snows.

Much of NJ will change to rain before the storm pulls away then the cold moves in turning the ground into frozen concrete.

A big mess, not a blizzard.

Euro model predicts a major snow this weekend.

Although the large scale setup is flawed , it is still something to watch.  Snow, ice and rain are quite possible , rather than a foot of snow.

I sure do not like ice, power outages galore, west of 287.

Looks like interesting weather for New York, New Jersey this winter and the forecast is the pattern will remain as is.

New York City metro, New Jersey ,Pennsylvania get snow on Tuesday.

Try not to laugh but the amount could be anywhere from 1 to 6 inches.  A very uncertain outlook tomorrow.

Best bet: look out the window starting mid morning.
*********************************************

More snow likely Tuesday morning late, ending by evening.

Another storm may affect us next weekend.  Iffy.
The storm next weekend is more likely South of our area.  But it will be close.

Sunday evening snow looks to accumulate from 1 to 3 inches area wide.

Overnight Sunday into Monday there will be a warming trend which will cause a wintry mix to change to plain rain on Monday.

Areas near New York City and the shore areas will see the least accumulations, in fact they may end up with only a coating.

The weather will turn quite cold later this week.  There is even a chance of more snow Tuesday.

Friday, December 6, 2013

Mostly rain today but Sunday could turn snowy and icy late in the day.

As is usual the forecasts are changing but travel after sunset on Sunday could be treacherous.

Preview of late Sunday?

This Sunday, 2 to 3 inches of snow is likely, maybe more North and West.

It will begin Sunday afternoon and continue into the evening. The first measurable snow for most of New Jersey.  This is based on the ECMWF model which has been showing this trend for days now.

New York City, mostly slush

Far north and west 6 inches or more.

Pennsylvania  6 inches plus.

There will be a sharp cold spell next week but not of long duration.

Today when the sun was shining it was spring but soon winter weather will begin again.
