Charles Dutoit lead the
NY Philharmonic Thursday night in a performance of Prokofiev's Violin Concerto #2 and Tchaikovsky's Symphony #5, at Lincoln Center, Avery Fisher Hall.
Soloist
Lisa Batiashvili gave a stirring performance. She not only has a marvelous tone and expression from her violin but she is also a strong.visual presence. Her movements are graceful , energetic and poetic. Seeing her move with the music is a delight.
The Symphony #5 was a masterful effort by Mr. Dutoit and the orchestra. It doesn't get any better than this. The warm up was Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks, which was nice but overshadowed by the rest of the evening.
There are 2 more evenings to catch Mr. Dutoit in action , Friday and Saturday, if you can get a ticket.. Lisa is there too, hooray!
As you can see, warmer weather this spring has turned my attention away from snow. There could be some
flurries next Tueday .
RESTAURANT REVIEW: OLLIE'S Chinese food.
Ollies at Broadway and 68th is a good alternative to the high priced spots nearby Lincoln Center. Unfortunately, for me, I chose grilled Teriyaki shrimp. Healthy but much too dry. The soup looked and tasted great. The waiting staff was friendly and efficient enough to suit me. I can recommend Ollie's but choose wisely from the menu.
YOU GOTTA TRYFiorello's right across the street from Lincoln Center, on Broadway.. The Pizza is overpriced but out of this world. At times the crowds can make the place unattainable. There is always
Josephina's right next door.
