Reports coming in of heavy snow now breaking out in PA.  Snow in MD also now.  6:01 pm.

Snow Thursday morning more likely especially on higher ground.

4" to 8" now looking more likely for Thur.&Fri.

**** But night time temps Wed. evening are reason for doubt.*****

High ground to the North And West still looks like where the heavy snow occurs. Sussex County winter wonderland.

April outlook: not as awful as what we have now!

My own sense of the April weather is lots of showery cool conditions, with an occasional break.  Not so good really and too chilly.

There is some hope of warmer the 2nd half of April, perhaps.  Wait and see.

Warmer next week!

Over the next 24 hours the Friday storm should come into clear view.  By then, all the weather elements involved, will have been over the continental US, where more detailed data is collected.

So, be warned, the forecasts may suddenly change tomorrow. Anything from heavy snow, rain or a near miss could happen.  I still favor heavy snow over interior locations with higher elevations.  Everywhere else, much less in the way of accumulations.

Joe Bastardi detects a major cool down after some milder weather next week.  Oh well.

Ella Fitzgerald - Sleigh Ride, what a voice!

Wheel of fortune weather forecast for April Fool's Day.

1 rain
2 rain/ snow mixed in.
3 3" to 6"
4 6"to 12"
5 12"+ if you live in West Milford.

I have seen various experts make these predictions, so far.  But yes, I think it will snow Friday.  Let us put it this way, there are more indications of snow from the models than there was yesterday.  But, it is hard to believe them.

April Fool?

One of the better models ( GFS )  shows NE New Jersey taking a pretty good hit of snow Friday.  Later this afternoon the Euro will come in and that will be interesting.

The Weather Channel is now on board for a snowstorm Friday.

Joe Bastardi sees snow and has been saying so for many days.

AccuWeather.com - Meteo Madness | A Major Storm is Brewing... Who Gets the Snow?

A heavy snowstorm is POSSIBLE on Friday. Even as much as 12" or more. On the other hand, climatology favors rain.  Which will it be?

  Stay tuned.

Heavy snow confined to the higher elevations inland is still the most likely outcome.

It could be rain or snow. On Wednesday, the forecasters will take a very close look at it.  I still favor the idea of accumulating snow in the highlands to our north and west.

Most interesting to me is the wide difference in the opinions about what may happen Friday.  One favors snow and cold while another sees rain and then a warming trend.  Yet, we know that they are all looking at the same data.  Go figure.

I am really tired of the cold.  How about you?

AccuWeather.com - Meteo Madness | Snow Stays South, While Severe Weather Hits the South

AccuWeather.com - Meteo Madness | Snow Stays South, While Severe Weather Hits the South

If you need some words of encouragement, don't read this.

It is March 26th and spring has sprung.

Photo: Rutgers U.

OK, it is 2 o'clock in the afternoon and the temperature is 35 degrees, with a good breeze blowing.  That is not what I had in mind, for the first weekend of spring.  Sunny, but chilly, weather for now up until Wednesday.  A storm will probably move in after that and if you live in Sussex county or the Poconos, it could even snow.

Did you notice that the snow which fell the other day,  did not melt, wherever it was shaded from the sun?

The first half of April may be bringing more of the same.

I am waiting for a strong warm weather signal but, so far, none is in sight.

Be glad you don't live in the hills of VA., they may be getting 4" of snow.

AccuWeather.com - Ken Clark | Monumental Snow Statistics Are Going Even Bigger!

As much as 600" of snow has fallen in the Sierra Mts. of California, so far.
As you can see from the radar, if you have been following it, the storm is moving out rapidly and the expected heavy snow never got going tonight, in many areas.

1 or 2 chances for snow in the week ahead, then it is over,  until next winter begins. We will be running 10 degrees below normal for our temperatures and that is certain.

Long range outlook hints at a major storm next week, with snow POSSIBLE.

These are the good old days......if you like snow!

March 23rd., 24th.,  1" to 3" snow.

March 26th, 27th snow possible

March 30th -April 2nd strong storm with snow possible.

Incredible, but not unprecedented.

The last decade will be known as the snow decade, because of numerous 12" + snowstorms in the Northeast US.  Compare that to many years in the 1980's when snow was scarce.

Looks like 3 chances for snow between tomorrow and next week.

Tomorrow the interior will get a substantial snow ending early Thursday.  Even NYC is forecasted to see 1" of snow and the amounts will increase as you go inland.

This weekend another 1" to 3" snow.

Next week a potentially strong storm producing heavy snow in some areas. About 29th , 30th of March.

Jim Cantore Surprised by the Steelers Chant, Thundersnow too!

Latest buzz: March 28th, 29th, a major east coast storm with snow possible.

Wednesday into Thursday, of this week,  I still like the 3' to 6" wet snow forecast, but others look for a warm up with rain.

March 28,29, of next week,  could be the last blast of winter.  It will make for an interesting week of weather watching.

It may be as late as April 1,2, for the finale snowstorm.  And it may concentrate on South Jersey.

Rainfall adding up again.

Rivers on the rise again, Flood Warnings have been posted, Road Closures in force.  Passaic River to rise 2 feet higher than earlier this month.  The Rivers will be at or above flood stage tomorrow.

SERIOUS FLOODING IS LIKELY!

Conflicting views on the long range forecast.

Lots of rain and flooding for Thursday into early Friday is certain.  Next week presents a problem in that some forecasters believe some blocking will set up next week leading to a coastal storm.  Others see a tranquil pattern becoming dominant and a warming trend for late March.  The seasons are changing, that much is known.

So we may, or may not see, corned beef and slush for St. Pattys' Day.  How about green snow?  Maybe.

******** Oh Oh ! , POSSIBLE East Coast storm March 15,16,17 with snow in Northern NJ.

Several models show a strong coastal low for the March 15 to 17 time period.  Too early to run out for bread and milk, but definitely worth watching.  Greatest snow threat is to NW New Jersey. This according to WXRISK.com and computer models.

The St. Patricks Day Storm?

The period from the 15th to the 20th is ripe for a storm.

Good weather Tuesday and Wednesday, then rains and flooding begin Thursday. ********* NWS Flood Watch in Effect.

Dry conditions, cool temperatures will make for pleasant weather Tuesday and Wednesday.

Thursday will begin a new round of heavy rain and additional flooding.  1" to 3" of rain is expected with some areas getting as much as 4".  The Pompton River will crest on Wednesday, but will likely begin rising again Thursday.

... Flood Watch in effect from Thursday morning through Friday
morning..
.

The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a

* Flood Watch for portions of southern Connecticut... northeast
New Jersey and southeast New York... including the following
areas... in southern Connecticut... northern Fairfield...
northern New Haven... southern Fairfield and southern New
Haven. In northeast New Jersey... eastern Bergen... eastern
Essex... eastern Passaic... eastern Union... Hudson... western
Bergen... western Essex... western Passaic and western Union. In
southeast New York... northern Westchester... Orange... Putnam...
Rockland and southern Westchester.

* From Thursday morning through Friday morning

* rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible Thursday into
early Friday.

* Due to the recent heavy rainfall... many rivers and streams are
at high levels. This combined with saturated soil will result in
high runoff rates with the potential for moderate to major
flooding. This is a potentially dangerous situation.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
develop.

Last chance for winter?

Joe Bastardi sees a chance for a cold snowy spell in late March into April.  A negative NAO will develop leading to a possible coastal storm which could include snow.  No other forecasters have jumped on to his bandwagon , so far.

Pets are good for your physical and mental health, but not for sleeping.
